The African people have enthusiastically welcomed Africa Christian Ministries. The needs are overwhelming but the opportunities for ministry are also unlimited. People of all ages are hungry for the gospel. The Mafus returned to South Africa in 1990 and established residence in a rented home in Esikhawini Township. This identification with the African people was critical to establishing the credibility of the ministry. The Mafus were able to survey and experience the needs identified by the people themselves. Programs were then designed to address those needs. ACM is committed to ongoing program flexibility in order that the preaching of the Gospel be unhindered by traditional approaches to ministry. Fifteen after-school Bible classes are currently held at seven separate sites. More than 600 young people are reached each week. The parents of these students have repeatedly expressed their gratitude for this positive influence on their children. Parents are now requesting teaching for themselves. In response to these requests, programs to strengthen and support adults and families are a priority. Morning devotions are conducted in three local schools, with the expectation that another school will soon be added. Over 1,200 children attend these schools and are present at devotions. Women's Bible classes are growing. Bible study is combined with practical instruction in traditional handcrafts. The ACM staff is also helping to lead and support a rural Bible class near Ingwavuma in northern KwaZulu which reaches another 50-60 children/teens.
